February Fireweed Friday!

"The Earthworm Principle: Hope in Dark Times"

Memorial Hall, Robertson-Wesley Church, 10209-123 Street

February 11, 2005 7-9 pm

Their seeds must fall and press beneath this earth, and find me where I wait. My only need to fertilize their birth.

From Elegy by Maya Angelou

Many of us carry within us the dream of a just and sustainable world. Yet, it seems that we only inch along in our personal changes and feel daunted by the desire for change in workplaces and society at large. LauraBelle Robinson joins the Fireweed Institute to discuss the importance of tiny, incremental changes in our conscious lives. Like earthworms who labour in the dark, she says these tiny changes can transform our environment, reverse the erosion of values in our society, and create open passageways that fertilize personal and cultural renewal. She will give many examples of how to create a living environment for ourselves that is sustainable and life-giving. She says, "These dangerous times for Earth call not just for passion and hard work, but -- more profoundly -- a sense of hope that is willing to act without a full understanding of what the future holds and a sense of faith in the full effect of small individual actions."

A suggested entry donation of $5 gives you a chance to win a basket of sustainable products. We look forward to having you join us!

Welcome to the Fireweed Institute

The Fireweed Institute is an educational institute dedicated to helping people find ways of working and living that are less stressful, more meaningful, and contribute positively to the Earth and the human family. The mission of the Fireweed Institute is to use transfomative learning to inspire and support people as they pioneer sustainable ways of working and living. We engage in this mission as a way to imagine and help create a just and sustainable world. The educational programs include long and short courses, workshops, and presentations that explore different aspects of sustainable living and working.
